| Supreme Court declined to hear case July 26, 2005
"The United States Supreme Court declined to hear the cases of two reporters facing up to 18 months in jail for refusing to testify about conversations with their confidential sources." Thomas Jefferson was very adamant about the 'Freedom of the Press.' Of all the Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson was the most passionate about "Freedom of the Press' and 'Freedom of Religion." Thomas Jefferson believed that Freedom of the Press was important to keep government under control. He did not particularly like the press. He did not trust them anymore than he would trust any institution with too much power. Thomas Jefferson believed that any person or institution that became too powerful would become corrupt. However, a powerful press was less harmful than a powerful government. Thomas Jefferson also believed that a press should be held accountable. "A declaration that the Federal Government will never restrain the presses from printing anything they please will not take away the liability of the printers for false facts printed." Thomas Jefferson to James Madison 1788 No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him. Thomas Jefferson |
| CAFTA is bad news!
July 26, 2005
Big business needs those low paying jobs in Central America to compete with the low paying jobs from China because the US Government allows China to ignor all levels of human decency. Big business will loose billions in profits if they cannot also have access to that same type of cheap labor. CAFTA will give US companies the ability to compete with China by stooping down to the same abusive level of human rights of China. China is a country who executes prisoners based on the demand of their organs. Organs that are sold by auction to the highest bidder. CAFTA will will not help the US workers or small business one bit. It will hurt small business and labor in this country. Any money the US worker saves by being able to buy cheaper products will more than be offset by not having a decent paying job. US workers who already have decent paying jobs will benefit, but the workers who looses their jobs because of CAFTA or those who will not get a job from CAFTA will suffer. |
| An open letter to those who supported the Terri Schiavo Bill in Congress.
June 20, 2005
When I was a young man I was drafted. Under oath I swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I did this proudly and freely, knowing full well that it might cost me my life, or worse yet, I might have to compromise my moral conviction and kill someone in combat. We have men and women right now in the same position. Men and women whom you have put there. Yet, you have supported a bill that knowingly violates the Constitution. Some did it purely because of moral conviction but others did it for selfish political purposes. I can not answer who did it for what reason. For whatever reason you voted to pass this bill, you did it with the understanding that this bill was in violation of the U.S. constitution. That is a direct violation of your oath of office. I, like the soldiers today, am expected to die and kill others without question in defending the Constitution, but it appears there is a different standard for our national leaders. |
| Beware: President Bush's changes in Social Security is the real socialism.
June 17, 2005
There are several things to remember when they talk about 'private' or 'personal' accounts with the discussion on Social Security. We already have them; they are called IRA's or 401K's. Anyone can use them and they really are personal. You can invest in almost anything. You control them AND YOU GET TO DEDUCT WHAT YOU PUT INTO THEM FROM YOUR TAXABLE INCOME. With social security, you pay income tax on the money that goes into social security and that includes the money they want to put into the 'private accounts.' |
| No Ten Commandments and no 'Under God' in 'pledge of allegiance
June 15, 2005
I went to a public school. The only time I remember anyone praying was on benediction at graduation. We did not have the Ten Commandments on the walls of the schools. No one prayed aloud nor was anyone given time to pray in the schools. We did not pray before sports games, lunch, or the death of Kennedy. At home, we prayed everyday. We prayed in the morning at breakfast time, lunchtime, dinnertime and before we went to bed. My parents took us to church every Sunday and sometimes during the week. They did not drop us off at the door so someone could teach us how to pray. They took us with them so they could teach us how to pray. My parents believed praying was too important to leave it to anyone else. That included schools, the government, and even church. We even had an old copy of the 'pledge of allegiance' that did not include the words 'under God.' I started school in 1959. |
| Who is really conservative?
June 10, 2005
Recently we have received many complaints about being one sided in our coverage of the news. We seem to pick on a particular political party, was a common theme. Our answer is, "we don't give a rats ass what you think." However, here are the reasons why we do it. They are the party in power. They control the president, congress, and are trying to control the courts. In addition, that's what we do, make fun of the people in power. I did not hear you complain when we made fun of the other side. |

The government reports that obesity will soon replace smoking as the biggest health threat in this country. We could significantly reduce our health care costs if we would prevent everyone from being over-weight and out-of-shape. If we would eliminate people being over-weight and out-of-shape we could all actually afford health care again. |
